Starting Salary: From $80,000 annually. This is the starting base salary for this role, and with internal equity always considered, the actual salary may be higher depending on a candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to the base salary and the benefits highlighted above, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus of up to 15% of the annual salary.

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Content Marketing is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing the brand narrative across Tourism Whistler’s owned channels. This role leads the content marketing team and oversees the development and optimization of content for web, blog, app, and social platforms, with an emphasis on audience-first storytelling, personalization, and performance.

They lead the creation of a dynamic content strategy and editorial calendar, ensure alignment with Tourism Whistler’s brand, seasonal priorities, and business goals, and manage ad hoc digital and web projects that support both marketing and cross-departmental needs. This role also includes a forward-looking mandate to explore and incorporate emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), into content planning, creation, and measurement.

Key Responsibilities

All team members act as Tourism Whistler ambassadors, living our purpose and vision with passion & energy, achievement and respect.

Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership

  • Develop and oversee the integrated content marketing strategy and editorial calendar for whistler.com, the Whistler Insider blog, Go Whistler Tours app, and social media channels.
  • Champion a data-informed, audience-centric approach to storytelling that reflects Tourism Whistler’s brand and values, while supporting destination marketing objectives.
  • Align closely with Communications, Paid Media, and Sales departments to ensure unified messaging across all owned and paid content touchpoints.
  • Collaborate with the Travel Media team on the amplification of influencer and earned media content across @GoWhistler channels, ensuring alignment with brand storytelling and seasonal priorities.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing team that includes the Web Editor, Content Editor, Social Media Specialist, Content Marketing Coordinator and Web Designer.
  • Foster collaboration across departments and with external partners (e.g., Destination Canada, Destination BC, Tourism Whistler Members) to amplify reach and impact through joint content initiatives.

Digital & Web Management

  • Manage ad hoc web and content-related projects, collaborating with IT and cross-functional teams to enhance user experience and support digital innovation.
  • Ensure whistler.com and other digital platforms reflect current brand messaging, are optimized for user engagement, and leverage personalization opportunities.

SEO, GEO & Analytics

  • Oversee and continuously improve organic search marketing efforts including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) tactics.
  • Use insights from Google Analytics and other data sources to inform content development, measure performance, and refine strategy.

Innovation & AI Integration

  • Stay current on emerging content technologies and trends, especially related to AI and automation tools in marketing.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate generative AI and content intelligence tools to enhance efficiency, personalization, and storytelling impact.

Budgeting & Planning

  • Co-develop annual business plans and KPIs for content marketing, in collaboration with the Vice President, Marketing.
  • Manage and forecast the content marketing budget, ensuring strong ROI on content initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum 5 years in content marketing, digital marketing, communications, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating across departments and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in content management systems, SEO principles, web publishing, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, content performance metrics, and audience segmentation.
  • Understanding of the evolving digital content landscape, including personalization, AI content tools, and SEO best practices.

Preferred or Bonus:

  • Familiarity or interest in emerging content technologies such as Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), AI writing assistants (e.g., ChatGPT, Jasper), or predictive analytics platforms.
  • Experience in tourism, hospitality, or destination marketing.
  • A passion for Whistler and its community, culture, and outdoor experiences.
