SCOPE
Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Athletics yet works closely with and can receive direction and guidance from the Head Coach, the incumbent provides a leadership role in the daily administration of the team. They are responsible for the development of strategies, talent identification and recruitment of future student-athletes, development of hockey related and academic skills of current student-athletes and will represent the university at various sporting events. The incumbent will also play a supporting role in the development of hockey schools/camps at the university as part of the community outreach and desire for hockey excellence at the institution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Team preparation- prepare the athletes for competition in a manner that allows for the students’ physical and mental well-being.
• Recruiting - (travel may be required) assists in the coordination of the teams’ recruiting efforts and activities including but not limited to establishing recruiting areas, responsibilities, lists, arranging visits (on campus or off) as well as compiling transfer information and academic support.
• Current knowledge – maintain knowledge of current trends in sports and incorporate changes where appropriate; contribute where possible to the improvement of the body of knowledge within the sport.
• Code of conduct – ensure compliance with university, departmental, and sport federation policies. Ensure good sportsmanship, ethical behavior on the field of competition; present a positive image for the student athletes, department, university, and the sport.
• Participation – ensure and monitor the participation of student-athletes in all team and departmental meetings, seminars, banquets, and other required functions.
• Planning – prepare and implement a plan of action, goals and objectives for the student-athletes.
• Professional development – in accordance with the respective PSO and NSO guidelines work towards the highest applicable level of professional development or education available to you.
• Other duties as required for the success of the program.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree preferably in a related field and 2-4 years of related experience in a team environment.
• Previous university coaching experience, understanding of USport and RSEQ guidelines an asset.
• Good knowledge (Level 4) spoken and written English and French.
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
• Superior teamwork, collaboration, stewardship and time management skills.
