Job Overview

Kingston Midstream is currently seeking a highly motivated Co-op Student to join their Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) team for a dynamic, hands-on learning experience. The successful candidate will work closely with the Network and Security Analyst to provide valuable support in enhancing the organization's cybersecurity program. The student will play a key role in assisting with the analysis of system alerts and security logs, helping to identify and mitigate any abnormal activity or potential threats to the network. In addition, the student will be involved in conducting risk assessments of external threats, ensuring the organization stays ahead of potential vulnerabilities.

As part of the role, the co-op student will also perform monthly phishing awareness trainings and simulations to educate employees on the latest phishing threats and techniques leveraging tools available to the company. This will include crafting engaging training materials, managing simulated phishing campaigns, and tracking participation and results to continuously improve the organization's defense against social engineering attacks.

The co-op student will have the opportunity to contribute to compiling and presenting detailed cybersecurity metrics for executive reporting, which will provide critical insights into the effectiveness of the organization's security posture and contributing directly to the overall security initiatives at Kingston Midstream.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for students looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in the fast-paced and ever-evolving field of cybersecurity. The student will be exposed to real-world security challenges, participate in key projects, and have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to a robust cybersecurity framework, all while working alongside experienced IT professionals in a collaborative and learning-focused environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Analyze Operational Security Alerts & Logs: Review and assess system alerts and logs to identify and investigate abnormal activity using standard threat detection, network and behavioural analysis tool.
  • Cybersecurity Metrics & Reporting: Compile and present monthly and quarterly cybersecurity metrics for executive-level reporting utilizing business intelligence tools (e.g SharePoint, excel and Power BI for analyzing, storing, organizing, and sharing data to streamline the creation of executive reports).
  • Risk Assessments: Perform risk assessments & threat hunts and collaborate on remediation efforts.
  • Vulnerability Scanning & Testing: Assist in conducting vulnerability scans and tests to evaluate system security and compliance.
  • Training and phishing Reporting: Create, manage and track monthly employee awareness training and phishing campaigns using Security awareness training and phishing simulating tool.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in Information Systems Security Diploma Program
  • Eligible for Co-op placement
