JOB PURPOSE

The Janitor will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the Burnaby office ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for all UWBC employees and guests.

*****This is a regular part-time position, requiring 20 hours per week.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cleans and maintains areas such as floors, entrances, lobbies, break rooms, elevators, escalators, stairways, walls, windows and walkways
  • Garbage removal and emptying recycling containers and sanitary napkin containers
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies
  • Cleans carpets and rugs by methods such as vacuuming etc.
  • Cleaning glass and windows internally on a weekly basis
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning products and supplies
  • Notify management of any repairs or maintenance needed
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations while performing duties.
  • Other janitorial related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Experience:

  • Previous one (1) year experience of janitorial or cleaning experience
  • Sound knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial care and maintenance of buildings

Skills:

  • Proven experience in commercial cleaning or facilities maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Good communication skills to interact with staff and management as needed

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and lifting
  • Work with cleaning chemicals and tools
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule with shifts starting late evening
  • May be required to work additional hours on short notice to help cover events

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1760. This position is at pay grade 22, which is $27.53 hourly.

Candidates must live within 60 KMs (commuting distance) from our office as regular office attendance is required.
