Position Overview:
As our Café Manager, you will lead the daily operations of the café while mentoring and supporting your team. You’ll set high standards in customer service, quality control, and health and safety compliance, while maintaining a workplace culture that’s fun, inclusive, and team-driven.
We believe leadership means working alongside your team, not above them. Your primary role is to empower your staff with the tools, training, and encouragement they need to succeed. You’ll be present, hands-on, and actively involved in daily service and operations.
Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Communication
- Ensure management coverage by coordinating shifts with supervisors or team leads.
- Promote open communication and team engagement through regular one-on-one conversations and digital platforms (e.g., Slack).
- Clearly communicate procedural updates and product changes.
- Foster a culture of respect, equity, and accountability by ensuring all staff are familiar with internal policies including health and safety, workplace harassment, and accessibility.
Hiring & Training
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training of all new employees.
- Follow structured onboarding checklists to ensure new team members are properly integrated.
- Ensure compliance with all mandatory training.
Customer Experience
- Champion a service-first mindset and uphold an exceptional guest experience in every interaction.
- Address customer feedback and service issues promptly and professionally.
- Empower staff to resolve minor service concerns on the spot, with guidance when needed.
Product & Quality Control
- Maintain high standards for product presentation, preparation, and safety.
- Ensure all food and beverages are handled in line with safe food handling regulations.
Daily Operations
- Use customized checklists to maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked store.
- Ensure that all operational tasks are completed consistently and thoroughly.
Scheduling
- Publish staff schedules at least two weeks in advance.
- Manage team availability and time-off requests using scheduling software
- Ensure labour compliance with government regulations and control staffing levels based on business needs.
Inventory & Ordering
- Place regular orders with approved suppliers to avoid stock shortages and reduce waste.
- Implement clear product labelling and rotation systems to maintain freshness.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain a manager’s log for recording daily issues, team notes, and any disciplinary actions.
- Complete all monthly reporting requirements, including inventory counts, health and safety updates, and cash handling records.
