- Please Note: This posting is exclusively for staff who are resigning from their permanent positions, but wish to remain employed as a Casual Support Worker*
The role will allow you to learn about how housing supports work in practical terms, and will enable you to develop the skills required to work effectively with our residents. You will be able to adapt your approach to suit a variety of situations and individuals. We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with residents that may have been vulnerably housed in the past.
This position is perfect for someone that wants the flexibility of making their own schedule and working at different locations.
This position provides a variety of services. In shelters, these will include registering, orienting, accepting referrals, and providing supports and advocacy to clients who are homeless. You will interact with other service agencies and professionals in support of the client needs. In housing, duties include case management, assessment, life skills development, problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
To succeed, you will have an excellent understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people. You will also have a sound understanding of the support needs of people with low incomes. Above all we are looking for a motivated, committed individual who has a genuine desire to support people to transform their lives.
Please note: The Casual Support Worker role will require the successful applicant to be available for a minimum of two night shifts per month.
Education
- Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field.
Experience
- At least two (2) years of experience working in a related environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Direct experience in the community social services sector with a working knowledge of community support agencies and resources is preferred.
Requirements
- Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
- Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
Job Information
- Hourly Wage Rate $30.18 - $33.49.
- Plus, an additional $2.00 per hour worked shift premium for all regular time shifts that cross midnight.
- An additional $2.00 per hour worked shift premium will apply for all regular hours worked that cross midnight that are exclusively worked at either Rock Bay Landing or 3020 Douglas*
- An additional $2.00 per hour worked shift premium will apply for all hours worked after a staff member has been moved to a different worksite during their shift.*
- *please note, these premiums are expected to remain in effect until the end of September 2023.
- Plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation and sick time.
- Work Locations: Various.
- Work Days & Shift Times As needed and dependent on your availability.
- Total Weekly Hours: Vary.
- Union BCGEU.
