About the role

Earnscliffe is looking for a Director of Finance who shall oversee the accounting, credit, and treasury function. The Director shall have responsibility for the accounting/finance department and shall report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Job functions shall include treasury, finance, information systems as they relate to the finance function, and special projects responsibilities. In order to function in this position, the Director of Finance shall require a strong knowledge of the partnership principles inherent in the Partnership Agreement for the compensation system, GAAP principles, firm policies and procedures and general management. This position is expected to demonstrate leadership both with respect to the firmwide management as well as day-to- day management of the accounting department and the identification of opportunities with reference to systems, procedures, management, etc.

Strategic Competency

  • Accountable for the performance of all financial activities within the organization and in support of the financial health of the Partnership. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Provide overall direction and supervision to the accounting/finance department
  • Make recommendations to the CEO with respect to the continuous improvement and efficient staffing of the accounting/finance department
  • Control and supervision of the Partnership’s financial records
  • Coordinate the flow of financial information between Partners
  • Ensure that effective systems and procedures for accounting and financial reporting are developed and maintained
  • Ensure that effective systems and procedures for financial planning and budgeting are developed and maintained
  • Supervising the preparation of financial plans, projections, and budgets for the organization. Providing periodic reports regarding performance against budgets
  • Maintaining controls and accounting for all capital expenditures by the organization. Partner accounts to be maintained for fixed assets acquired by the organization on behalf of partners
  • Monitor the organization’s cash position to ensure that the organization will have enough funds available to cover its operating expenses as well as partner draws
  • Maintain controls of delinquent accounts and disbursements and work and develop strategies and plans to ensure all is being done to collect delinquent accounts
  • Research and recommend improved systems for accounting, billing, and collections
  • Act as organization’s liaison with its external accountants and tax advisers
  • Ensure that effective systems and procedures for accounting, financial and operational reporting are developed and maintained
  • Direct the maintenance of an effective system of internal controls to assure proper delegation of responsibilities and appropriate checks and balances within the organization’s account/finance functions
  • Assess monthly trends in the firm’s income and expenses, identify targets of opportunity for increasing profitability and growth
  • Direct the timely submission of all federal, provincial and municipal tax reports and other regulatory and institute filings for the organization
  • Present accurate and useful management information and financial statements, in a timely and reliable manner consistent with the schedule agreed upon
  • Oversee, in conjunction with the organization’s IT provider, the management, operation, and maintenance of the organization’s data processing, equipment and application programs as they relate to the finance function.

Core Competency

  • There is a requirement on all accounting staff to report any situation that she/he feels may be an impropriety
  • To maintain all client and organization information in the strictest confidence. Accounting information should only be shared with other accounting staff on a need-to-know basis.

Qualifications

  • University degree in commerce (major in accounting/finance) or a professional accounting degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8-10 years similar work experience
  • CGA, CPA or working in progress would be benefit but not required
