Position Summary - September 2025 - April 2026 Term Placement
Travel Alberta is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Co-Op student to join our Strategy, Research, and Communications team starting September 2025. Reporting to the Manager, Research and Performance, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to tourism research and analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, that supports strategic decision-making across the organization.
This position offers hands-on experience in applying research and analytical skills to real-world challenges in Alberta’s tourism sector. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of strategic initiatives and contribute to projects that have a direct impact on the province’s tourism economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis & Insights:
- Collect, clean, analyze, and visualize tourism-related data to measure outcomes, identify trends and determine gaps, generate actionable insights to support tourism management and development initiatives.
- Conduct statistical analyses of tourism indicators to support economic modeling and forecasting projects to inform organizational strategic objectives.
- Research & Reporting:
- Lead the development of regional industry profiles to help provincial tourism businesses understand market demand, emerging trends, and other key metrics.
- Provide ad hoc data validation and contribute to strategic communications as needed.
- Communication & Presentation:
- Assist in the development, creation, and facilitation of presentations that effectively communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic Support:
- Generate insights and materials that directly support tourism management, development initiatives, and organizational strategy.
Required Qualifications

Educational Background:
-
Enrollment in the 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate program in Business, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

Experience:
-
Data modeling experience using regression and other methods, primarily using Microsoft Excel.
-
Familiarity with the tourism industry and its unique challenges is considered an asset.
-
Experience working with Business Intelligence tools such as DOMO, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms for dashboard analysis and data visualization is considered an asset.

Technical Skills:
-
Knowledge of market research methodologies used to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative information.

Problem-Solving Abilities:
-
Research and analytical and problem-solving skills to determine needs, analyze options, and translate research results for decision-makers.

Communication Skills:
-
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to support discussions and communicate complex analyses through reports and presentations.

Organizational Skills & Adaptability:
-
Sound organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and contribute to multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
