Reporting to the Director, Patient Care Services, the Manager, Patient Care Services (MPCS) oversees unit operations to ensure timely, coordinated and high quality patient care. This includes managing staff, resources and patient care workflows in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. The role provides leadership in staffing, development, and performance management, fostering a supportive and accountable work environment.

Duties:

  • Oversees daily operations to ensure timely, effective, and coordinated service delivery, minimizing delays, errors and gaps. Fostering accountability with the team to meet shared objectives, ensuring collaboration that aligns with key performance metrics and department goals.
  • Efficiently utilize resources including staff, equipment and budgets to maximize productivity, reduce waste and maintain high quality standards while achieving objectives.
  • Manages budget, including regular variance reporting and analysis of overtime and staffing costs.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and support to ensure team goals are achieved, staff engaged and service delivery remains consistent.
  • Fosters a culture of teamwork and accountability by leading by example, guiding employees through challenges and supporting individual and collective success to promote retention and high moral.
  • Manage day-to-day human resources activities for the team, including recruitment, onboarding, schedules, attendance, and vacation approvals.
  • Provides leadership and support for staff development through regular performance evaluations, ongoing feedback, coaching and identifying training opportunities to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Ensure staff compliance with mandatory training and awareness of new policies, legislation, and departmental/unit procedures to align with legal and safety requirements.
  • Monitors key workforce metrics to identify opportunities for improvements and implements innovative solutions/approaches to enhance performance and drive operational excellence.
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice by supporting adherence to professional students and developing specialty knowledge where applicable.
  • Work closely with peers, physicians, scientists, leadership team and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of departmental goals with broader hospital strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment that promotes open communication, shared responsibility and collective problem solving.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and timely responses.
  • Work in a manner that complies with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti- Racism, Harassment, Discrimination-Free workplace and work safety policies and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Allied Health is required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Care Administration, Health Services Management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years required in mental health and 3+ year’s progressive leadership in clinical services and administration experience in acute care is required.
  • Current Registration and good standing with applicable regulatory college. (E.g. College of Nurses)
  • Mental health clinical service delivery models
  • Commitment to delivering compassionate, recovery oriented care that promotes patient dignity and involvement
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, [HIPA, SDA)
  • Ensures compliance with healthcare laws and privacy
  • Ability to inspire motivate and develop multidisciplinary teams to achieve high performance a positive patient outcomes
  • Skilled at addressing staff conflicts, managing union relations, ad negotiating solutions that balance organizational needs and employee concern
  • Strong verbal and Witten communication skills to engage staff, patient and families and stakeholders clearly and empathetically
  • Familiarly with healthcare IT systems and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Facilitates accurate patient data management and clinical workflow. Ability to interpret working and patient care data to inform decisions and improve service delivery
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), email and internet
  • Experience in unionized settings and collective agreements
  • Proven ability to lead through organizational change
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Salary Range:

58.26 to 63.66 per hour
