About the role
We are seeking a part-time community support worker to assist young adult males in their mid-twenties with developing friendships, community supports, and self-esteem.
This position supports individuals with diverse abilities in community and social settings. Having a shared interest in pop culture such as Magic: The Gathering, comics, or movies may be helpful in this role! It's important to have some understanding of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or panic attacks, and to approach others with patience and respect. The role calls for someone who can offer calm and consistent support while encouraging self-confidence, independence, and safety, always respecting each person's boundaries and individuality.
Location:
- Nanaimo
Shifts & Hours of Work:
- Friday from approximately 5:30-8:00 PM
- Hours could change depending on community activities.
Compensation:
- $28.00 per hour
Required Qualifications:
- Community Support Worker Certificate or equivalent combination of education/experience
- Class 5 Drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check
- Understanding, sensitivity, and respect towards the individual's
- Ability to self-direct
What would make you a Strong Candidate:
- Familiarity with the Card Game 'Magic: The Gathering' or willingness to learn
- Interest in comic books, movies, and pop culture
- Understanding of anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and PTSD and strategies relating to coping
- Sensitive to individual's unique personality and diverse-abilities who can use a gentle approach to help foster self-confidence and self-esteem while maintaining personal boundaries
- Able to support individual's with diverse-abilities and demonstrate personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality and safety in the community
