General Duty Cardiac Sonographer
About the role
Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager and under the general supervision of the Charge Cardiac Sonographer, the incumbent is responsible for obtaining high-quality cardiac ultrasound images and related structures for the Cardiologist who will interpret the examination. The incumbent may also assist in the education of new staff, students, patients and visitors; assisting in research endeavors within the department.
Experience
- One (1) year recent experience as a diagnostic cardiac sonographer preferred.
- Previous experience using healthcare information systems is preferred (e.g., Radiology Information System (RIS) and Admission, Discharge, Transfer System (ADT), NESS, EPR, eChart).
- Experience with analysis software for cardiovascular imaging (e.g., ImageVault, View Point).
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Complete High School education, Manitoba Standards, required.

Successful completion of a CMA accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program.

SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Skilled in the use of highly technical cardiovascular ultrasound equipment and probes in order to produce complete anatomic and functional information for the Cardiologist to interpret.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Certified with Sonography Canada as a Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Must maintain registry status by obtaining the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
- Must maintain current BCLS (Level C) in accordance with the applicable policy.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to apply independent judgment and clinical interpretive knowledge.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications and proficiency in related software applications.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have the ability to adapt readily, and respond with initiative, to a changing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
