MEDICAL DICTA-TYPIST (TRANSCRIPTIONIST) (25-0000600)

Status: Full Time
Department: Health Records
Site: St. Joseph's Hospital
Shifts: Days
Rate of Pay: $25.104 - $29.531 per hour
Reporting to the Manager Health Records & Central Registration, the Medical Dicta-Typist is responsible for interpreting and transcribing dictated documentation from physicians and clinicians to facilitate delivery of health care services, in accordance with recognized procedures and established standards.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
-
Diploma in office administration (medical / health services) or equivalent in work experience and continuing education.

Minimum two years' experience in transcription in the health care field, including voice recognition transcription software (Fluency preferred)
-
Must possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology, including diagnostic, laboratory tests, and pharmacology
-
Knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable legislation and related regulations, codes, and standards; specifically, Personal Health Information Protection Act Experience with Meditech preferred

Skills/Abilities:
-
Excellent English grammar, punctuation, and comprehension skills
-
Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, including the ability to use tact and good judgment
-
Ability to identify and interpret the intended meaning of dictated information and transcribe dictation from diverse audiences with varying dictation styles
-
Ability to transcribe and edit according to industry standards, guidelines and practices (described by the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and the AAMT Book of Style)

Excellent research skill with the ability to research terminology to ensure accuracy
-
Proficient in word processing with a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers

Must possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Strong organization/time management skills

Must maintain confidentiality of records, actions and information

Demonstrated ability to operate designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment

Must demonstrate excellent keyboard/transcription skills, utilizing a Digital Dictation System and Medical Records Systems

Demonstrated regular attendance at work
