Relief Position

To start as soon as possible.

Community Living Service Delivery (CLSD), Crisis and Respite Services supports individuals with intellectual disabilities to ensure their physical, emotional, and social needs are met with the goal of supporting their independence, living arrangements, and lifestyle as independent as possible.

In this role, you will focus on creating positive, engaging experiences and are accountable to the individuals receiving services. We are seeking caring and empathetic people who welcome challenges, are proactive, love to learn, embrace change, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy variety in their work while making positive, meaningful changes in people’s lives. These appointments are located at Southwood Home in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. This program offers transitional housing support and planned respite services. The purpose of respite is to maintain the health and well-being of the individual, their care provider, and/or family by providing temporary support. Transitional housing is a temporary support for those with immediate housing needs and a safe place where individuals continue to build on their strengths.

In this role, you will support individuals and provide quality person-centered services. Your hands-on work and engagement with the individual is conducted in a learning and supportive manner and utilizes your effective communication, positive role modeling, patience, adaptability, leadership, and organization to assist in completing the following responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in written form;
  • Apply standard safety precautions and practices according to established protocols, safety guidelines, and existing legislation;
  • Work both independently and as a team player to co-operatively accomplish program objectives/goals and create and maintain a positive work environment;
  • Anticipate, recognize, and react to conflict situations by exercising sound judgment and resolution; highly motivated, organized, flexible, and adaptable to work in a challenging environment; and
  • Assist with all activities of daily living and life skills.

Typically, the knowledge required for this position will be gained through experience on the job. However, previous experience working with individuals experiencing intellectual disabilities and/or completion of a Special Care Aide Program would be considered a definite asset. This position may be exposed to the risk of violent situations. Some travel may be necessary.

This is a shift work position in a program that provides person-centred care 24 hours/day; 7 days/week. Shifts are 8 hours in length. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to operate a vehicle supplied by the Ministry.

Please note, due to the nature of the position, employees may be exposed to the risk of violent (behavioural) situations in which PART training reinforces safety concerns and assists in precautionary measures.
