Position Summary:
Aquicon Construction is a leading Canadian general contractor with over 35 years of experience building high-quality institutional, recreational, and community-based projects across Ontario. We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate Accountant to join our accounting team. Working closely with the Accounting Manager and reporting to the Controller, this role will support the day-to-day accounting functions and month-end reporting cycle, while ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and be proficient in Jonas or a similar ERP system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain working papers for financial statement accounts, including bank, AR, AP, prepaids, and accruals.
- Assist in preparing internal financial reports and variance analyses for management.
- Reconcile and maintain project costing, WIP schedules, and job-related financial records.
- Prepare HST/GST and other government remittances and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with payroll-related reconciliations and journal entries (as required).
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in accounting processes and internal controls.
- Provide support on ad hoc financial analyses and projects as needed by the Accounting Manager or Controller.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA designation (in progress or completed) is considered an asset.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry or similar.
- Solid understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and project costing is an asset.
- Experience with Jonas or similar ERP/accounting systems is highly preferred.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
