What you will be doing
This Assistant Controller is responsible for performing key accounting activities within the finance department. Key duties include monitoring, researching, compiling, and posting month-end journal entries, completing balance sheet account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with internal controls. The role also involves responding to complex, non-routine inquiries, applying GAAP and Rhenus Logistics policies, procedures, and practices.

- Oversee company-wide finance functions
- Coordinate with AP/AR to ensure payment commitments
- Review monthly bank/account reconciliations
- Monitor inter-company account reconciliations
- Analyze general ledger accounts
- Reconcile petty cash monthly
- Support Treasury and cash flow estimates
- Ensure operational closing deadlines are met
- Perform monthly system closings and reconciliations
- Coordinate with accounting staff for timely monthly closes and forecasts
- Prepare and enter monthly general ledger adjustments
- Assist with preparing individual and consolidated financial statements
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis and reports
- Prepare audit working papers, liaison with external auditors and regional team
- Communicate with external accountants as needed
- Respond to CRA/IRS and registration compliance queries
- Submit monthly commentary and reports on schedule
- Assist with annual and mid-term budgeting, review budgets
- Conduct financial/cost analysis and special projects
- Provide guidance and support to accounting staff
- Communicate and support other departments as needed
What skills & experience you will bring to us
- 5+ years of management experience in accounting, preferably in Freight Forwarding or 3PL
- CPA designation with 5+ years of experience
- CMA and/or MBA considered an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience preferred
- Proven ability to manage, prioritize, and train others
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments
- Ability to travel regionally as required
- Multilingual: English required; Spanish and German preferred
