Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) - Settlement Services
About the role
Full-Time, Term
Are you passionate about working with families who are new to Canada? Do you want to make a meaningful impact in your local schools and community? Settlement Services is looking for a skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS).
This role is perfect for someone who brings critical thinking, resourcefulness, and energy to their work—and who is driven to support the success of immigrant children and their families as they adjust to life in the Bow Valley. In this role, you will help newcomer families navigate the Alberta school system and access the supports they need to thrive.
As a SWIS, you will act as a key link between home and school, welcoming immigrant families into the education system and helping them understand how it works. You will deliver orientation sessions, provide one-on-one and group support, and develop culturally inclusive initiatives that build confidence and community. You will also work closely with school staff—such as ELL teachers and Learning Support Teams—to ensure immigrant students are fully supported in their academic and social development.
This position calls for someone who is comfortable working across cultures, capable of building trust with both families and professionals, and passionate about helping newcomers feel a sense of belonging. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to lead programs and adapt to changing needs in a school setting.
You are an experienced driver with a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s licence and can provide a clear driver’s abstract on hire. You will be required to provide a clear RCMP criminal background check with vulnerable sector clearance on hire. This is a full-time contract position until March 31, 2028, with the possibility of extension based on funding.
Working safely is a condition of employment at the Town of Banff. As part of our internal responsibility system, all employees are accountable for adhering to Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Town of Banff safety protocols. The Town of Banff’s safety culture philosophy is one of continuous improvement, so we look forward to your suggestions to make our workplace even safer.
