Job Description:
- Lead by example on the shop floor, spending most of your time actively supporting technicians, monitoring job progress, and ensuring adherence to safety and service standards.
- Champion a culture of safety by conducting daily safety reviews, ensuring compliance with the National Safety Code (NSC), and leading pre-job, mid-job, and post-job safety meetings.
- Manage and mentor a team of technicians and apprentices, providing coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities to build a high-performing, engaged workforce.
- Ensure service quality and accuracy, verifying that all repairs align with the agreed scope of work and that tooling, parts, and technical issues are resolved promptly.
- Oversee job planning and execution, assigning technicians to bays/jobs, managing manpower availability, and conducting mid-job reviews to ensure timely and efficient completion.
- Act as a key communication link between the shop floor and customer-facing teams, ensuring that job updates, changes, and technical findings are clearly communicated.
- Support warranty and repair processes, identifying warrantable failures, managing third-party service requirements, and ensuring accurate documentation for claims and credits.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying safety and process opportunities during job reviews and implementing lessons learned into future work planning.
- Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, including accurate timecard completion, tool maintenance, and adherence to contamination control protocols.
- Contribute to operational performance goals, including safety targets (TRIF, near misses), customer satisfaction (NPS), employee engagement, and financial KPIs (rework, variance, productivity).
Qualifications:
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification
- Minimum 4 years of experience with Caterpillar equipment and engines
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of:
- Caterpillar product lines and service systems
- Warranty and goodwill processes
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and hazard assessment
- NSC compliance and safety protocols
- Contamination control and undercarriage components
- Financial acumen and ability to interpret KPIs
- Familiarity with collective agreements and performance management processes
Note:
- This position is based out of our Whitehorse location.
- Permanent, full-time role.
- Continuous shift; 14 on, 14 off 12-hour days.
