Hiring Unit:
Athletics and Recreation - Communications

Position Summary:

Under the direction on the immediate supervisor, the Varsity broadcasters (both play-by-play and colour commentators) for the 2025-2026 varsity season, covering a wide range of McGill varsity sports including basketball, football, hockey, and volleyball.

All broadcast jobs are part-time positions available September – March with the work taking place primarily on weeknights and weekends during the varsity season. The McGill Sports Broadcasting Network streams over 80 events per season.

Responsibilities:

  • writing introductions for pre-game filler
  • undertaking relevant background research
  • interviewing players and coaches pre/post game
  • calling live games with a partner
  • the ability to think creatively and see all potential angles of a story
  • generating ideas for stories, or taking a brief
  • speaking directly to camera
  • working with varsity livestream coordinator to ensure professional production from open to close

Additional Job Description

  • A genuine interest in, knowledge of and/or experience of a wide variety of sports is essential in this role.
  • Flexibility with regards to working hours and workdays: standard hours are from 5:30 – 11:00 p.m. with the vast majority of varsity games occur between Thursday and Sunday.
  • Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing
