Job Type:
Part-Time Permanent (Sat to Sun, 7am to 3pm)

Pay: $21.07 per hour

About the Role

We're looking for a Permanent Part-Time Cook to join our team in our Detox program at Alpha House Calgary. The primary role of the Cook is to prepare nutritional, cost effective meals for 25 to 60 individuals on a daily basis, as well as provide a soup kitchen to clients, many who are homeless and dealing with alcohol and other drug dependencies. Your duties would include:

  • Preparing meals & soups for the day as per the menu plan

  • Serving clients (counter service), and assisting with cleanup as required

  • Managing inventory and waste control

  • Assisting in receiving donations and inventory, including bread runs etc.

  • Cleaning equipment and workstations

  • Ensuring compliance with health regulations

  • Occasional prep for special occasions, such as the AGM, special event BBQs, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

  • Coaching and supervising clients and kitchen volunteers

  • Other duties as required

About You

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • At least 2 year’s cooking experience combined with completion of a 2 years culinary arts program, or 4 years’ experience in lieu of education

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required (non-GDL)

  • Current certification in Food Safe Level 1

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Experience in industrial kitchen preferred

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Must possess a passion for cooking

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations an asset

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs throughout the course of the day.
