The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and North West Region is seeking are seeking a qualified person to join our Red Lake Detachment.

Note: During this selection process, candidates are required to undergo mandatory requirements of psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check. Candidates who have successfully completed the psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check will be invited to attend ten (10) weeks of in person training in Orillia. All mandatory requirements as listed must be completed prior to assignment to a team.

The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.

Red Lake is located on Highway 105,177kms north of Highway 17. The Red Lake Detachment provides policing services to the Municipality of Red Lake, the Township of Ear Falls and surrounding area: all within the District of Kenora. In addition, Red Lake Detachment provides operational support to the Pikangikum Police Service.

Red Lake has an approximate population of 4670. The mining, government, tourism and retail sectors provide a stable and expanding local economy with competitive housing market and numerous employment opportunities. Within the Municipality of Red Lake are the communities of Red Lake, Balmertown, Cochenour, McKenzie Island, Starratt-Olsen and Madsen

About the job

You will manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation including a psychological assessment
  • Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent), college diploma or university degree (or equivalent)
  • Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status
  • Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or permanent resident status and legally entitled to work in this country.

Administrative and Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in application software programs to prepare, update, and maintain records.
  • Written communication skills to compose and prepare court-related documents.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate and track documentation and case file arrangements.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with Judges, Crown Attorneys, defense lawyers, police officers, and the public.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to interact with prisoners to ensure cooperation during escort and court proceedings.

Problem Solving and Decision-Making:

  • Ability to assess documentation requirements and follow up on missing or incorrect paperwork.
  • Initiative to identify and resolve issues, such as scheduling conflicts or prisoner attendance errors.
  • Decision-making skills related to day-to-day case management and document processing.
