About the role

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible to meet/contact students, assess concerns and challenges, and make referrals to support services on and off campus. Responsible to facilitate the coordination of care and individual support to address the needs of students who are experiencing challenges in areas that may include academic, psychological well-being, economic stress, behavioral concerns, family relationships, and other barriers that impede success. This will be done through assessments, consultations, interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. The incumbent fields calls, emails, and referrals regarding students and manages cases involving students of concern, facilitating connection to multiple supports both on and off campus, as well as providing information and resources accordingly. The position is non-counseling and non-therapeutic. In addition, the Case Manager will develop and lead programs, trainings and workshops for faculty, staff, and students that increase knowledge of mental health and support holistic student development and success. The purpose of this role is to enhance the conditions and likelihood of students’ personal and academic success and to contribute to a campus community that strives to support positive mental health and well-being

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of student care and support program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Completion of master’s degree in social work or counselling, student affairs, education, or related field required
  • Minimum of five year of previous student support and counselling program and service experience plus two years of management or leadership experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience in student support and service or program delivery

  • Minimum of three years’ professional experience in a student conduct or case management role within a postsecondary education or closely related setting
  • Demonstrated experiencing building and fostering relationships with students, colleagues, and departments
  • Experience in higher education or closely related setting with demonstrated knowledge of student support provision, program facilitation, and knowledge of systems and service delivery
