The City of Abbotsford is looking for qualified, professional, and knowledgeable Auxiliary Fitness Workers – Personal Trainers to provide personal training at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre as well as the Matsqui Recreation Centre. The main focus of the Fitness Worker – Personal Trainer is to provide a safe, effective fitness program to your clients and guiding them on their fitness journey.
Under the supervision of the Fitness Supervisor team, Fitness Workers – Personal Trainers are responsible for planning and executing private sessions with their clients within their scope of practice. Pre-made assessments and forms help you support your clients to build a personalized and productive program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide a well-planned lesson for each client and adapt lessons to the abilities of the client
- Provide supervision and instruction to fitness center patrons effectively and in a professional manor
- Provide instruction to patrons for safe use of fitness equipment, weightroom environment, review rules, and facility safety
- Enforce general rules of conduct for the fitness facilities
- Respond to first aid incidents and complete appropriate first aid and safety documentation
- Inspect fitness equipment and report repairs timely
- Provide outstanding customer service and effective communication
- Maintain a clean and welcoming environment to the diverse community of Abbotsford.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Current BCRPA or equivalent Personal Training certification. CFES is accepted, as well as Kinesiology students 2nd year onwards with valid B.C.A.K Standings, either student or practicing
- Current Standard First Aid CPR ‘C’ & AED certification
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow and carry-out oral and written communication in English
- Ability to prepare documents and communication
- Ability to apply the theory-based knowledge in anatomy and physiology as it applies to the work performed
- Knowledge of the standard of care within your scope of practice
- Knowledge of fitness equipment and functions
- Knowledge and demonstrated use of email and recreation scheduling software
The candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.
