What Will You Do Reporting to a Manager, Operations-Airports, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and efficient operating environment for the airport community, passengers, and visiting public at one of Canada’s busiest airports.
Whats The Team Like The Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) operates 24/7 365 providing a consistent and collaborative response to operational needs at the Calgary International Airport. The IOC is the “heart” of YYC’s operations – one team creating significant enhancements and a seamless, customer-focused response to all operational activities both in the terminal and on the airfield. The Terminal Operations Specialists are the eyes and ears for the IOC, responding to incidents and emergencies, gathering critical information, as well as monitoring and enforcing airport operations and security.
What Are Some Of The Responsibilities Audit/Oversight Airport Operations Program
- Enforce the Airport Security Program as directed by the Manager, Operations-Airports.
- While on shift, act as The Authority representative to complete daily patrols and audits of the airport facility.
- Audit and inspect the airport facility to mitigate potential safety hazards and operational impacts.
- Report all incidents and concerns to the IOC.
- Make recommendations to change and improve physical security system as identified through daily patrols and audits.
- Input information and data into the incident reporting systems to allow for the evaluation of trends and vulnerabilities within a risk-based security environment.
- Ensure day to day compliance of tenants, airlines, stakeholders, passengers and Authority employees with all applicable acts, laws, regulations, measures and directives relating to civil aviation security and applicable safety regulations throughout the course of their duties.
Security/Safety Preparedness and Response

Participate in security and safety exercises.

Monitor the security and safety of the Primary Security Line (PSL).

Respond to safety, security and emergency incidents as On Scene Controller (OSC), provide initial first-aid, situational assessment, establish control of scene, initiate emergency environmental protection, information gathering, emergency escort(s) and perform supporting roles to emergency responders.

Respond to security events including:

RAIC violations
-
Security breaches and infractions
-
Customs breaches
-
Comingle responses
-
Unwanted visitors
-
All other acts against aviation security
- Perform Threat Risk Assessments (TRA) in collaboration with stakeholders required as per the regulations.
- Respond to the safety events including:
- Medical responses
- Fire alarms
- Slip and fall investigations
- Asset damage
- Groundside traffic accidents and incidents
- Act as the YYC On Scene Controller for all Air Terminal Building incidents.
- Liaise with enforcement agencies to ensure that positive relationships are maintained in preparation for emergencies.
Terminal Operations Support
- Provide customer service for traveling passengers, stakeholders and visitors to the Air Terminal Building.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders regarding matters related to Airport Operations including but not limited to: CATSA, CBSA, USCBP and Transport Canada to ensure stakeholder compliance with Regulations, Airport Procedures and other policies.
- Liaise with the IOC for operational issues for coordination of work and matrix reporting structure.
- Monitor passenger flow in Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), provide support to the Customer Care Ambassadors during peak operating periods or Primary Inspection Kiosk (PIK) outages. Assist with crowd control and queue management as required.
- Respond to any Irregular Operations (IROPS) as the representative of The Authority and provide support to guests, airlines, and any other stakeholders as required.
- Monitor terminal construction projects and ensure compliance with Security and Operational plans.
What Do You Need To Bring
- The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
- Post secondary diploma in a related field such as aviation, airport operations, emergency management or a related discipline is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma combined with relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in complex operations, preferably in airport operations, or a similarly regulated, operational environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation including Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Canadian Aviation Security Regulations (CASRs), Aerodrome Security Measures (ASMs), and Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
- General knowledge of the airport environment and airport operations.
- Proficient in technical and report writing, with a strong understanding of specifications and documentation standards.
- Skilled in reading, interpreting, and applying standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Capable of interpreting legislation, conducting inspections, audits, and investigations, and accurately reporting deficiencies.
- Experienced in quality improvement processes and techniques.
- Strong relationship building skills, with the ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with customers, contractors, airport stakeholders and internal staff.
- Adept at managing difficult or escalating situations with professionalism and composure.
- Knowledgeable in supervisory and management principles, including the ability to lead through influence.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional verbal & written communication skills, as well as a high degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to handle stress and deal with crisis situations in a calm manner and assist in managing others in a stressful environment.
- Physical ability to walk for long distances for prolonged durations.
