POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Early Years Manager and collaborating with the Summer Camp Leader, the Summer Camp Student Workers will support the Westbank First Nation summer program by providing recreational and learning activities for children and youth ages 5 -11 throughout the summer months. The Summer Camp Student Workers will be responsible for introducing a variety of games, sports, cultural and educational activities to the program participants ensuring the main objectives of the summer program are innovative, exciting, professional, safe, fun and positive.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Interest in working with children
  • Ability to relate to children aged 5 – 11
  • First Aid with Child CPR (or willing to obtain)
  • Food Safe Course (or willing to obtain)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a student returning to high school or a post-secondary institution in Fall 2025
  • Must be aged 15 or older
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required
  • Character references to state suitability to work with children
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Works with WFN community children to promote sports activities that are relevant to children aged 5 to 11 years. Activities will include and are not limited to lacrosse, traditional hand games, traditional sports, floor hockey, skating, swimming, soccer, archery, golf, baseball, basketball, running, hiking, dancing, and other child activities as required
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and leading a comprehensive child sports program
  • Prepares and complete statistics on participants attendance within a daily log
  • Perform certain administrative duties as required
  • Promotes a positive atmosphere for community children by demonstrating leadership, role model qualities, team building, and fostering strong relationships with the community, parents and children
  • Ensures that all equipment and facilities are safe, properly prepared, maintained, and cleaned regularly as required for use by program participants and staff
  • Ensure the security of all facilities by locking all doors, securing windows, and setting the alarm
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as assigned by the Early Years Manager or designate
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Early Years Manager or designate

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to follow directions

  • Ability to work unsupervised and in a team atmosphere

The minimum hourly wage for this position is $20.00.
