Claims Associate

Here is what a typical day looks like

  • Producing, reviewing, reconciling, and distributing claims bordereaux reports

  • Managing disbursement of cheques, including urgent payments as per the established company policies

  • Reconciling financial reports in coordination with the Accounts Receivable team including handling void and stale dated cheques

  • Assigning new claims to adjusters as well as applicable vendors as per established service level standards

  • Managing and monitoring the claims team inbox, ensuring proper service standards

  • Identifying and reporting on claims trends to stakeholders

  • Issuing adjuster and legal fee payments as required

  • Reviewing and interpreting policy wordings and parameters to determine if coverage is in-force and triggered by the loss

  • Managing claims settlement process with independent adjusters; providing independent adjusters recommendations and direction for negotiation and settlement on intermediate claims complexity within the authority provided by insurers

  • Performing in-house adjustments of claims within authority granted by provincial authorities and insurers

  • Entering new claims, reserves, payments, reserve changes, closing claims in system(s) and updating bordereaux’s as required

  • Maintaining accurate loss and expense reserves based upon investigation and/or recommendations made by independent adjusters, insurers, or Lloyds affiliates, including validating independent adjusters’ or insurers’ reserve calculations and advising of discrepancies and recommendations

  • Providing feedback to Underwriters, Risk Management, and Brokerage teams on claims frequency and physical hazards

  • Maintaining and actioning abeyance of files and payment schedules

  • Collaborating with policyholders, Lloyds of London affiliates, insurers and other industry members to assist clients in the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of claims

  • Drafting and distributing correspondence to insureds, insurers, third party claimants, adjusters and other industry members

  • Requesting and forwarding cheques to clients and adjusters

  • Supporting and liaising with the broker network and underwriters in the preparation and delivery of key claims data critical to accurate underwriting practices

  • Handling inquiries received by customer/branch and insurance vendors

  • Recording and maintaining all documentation of claims interactions

The value you bring

  • General Insurance Level 2 License required, or willingness to obtain within 6 months

  • 3 years’ experience in the General Insurance Industry, ICBC experience an asset

  • Your superior organizational skills help you stay on track with multiple competing priorities, ensuring invoices are paid promptly, documents are filed correctly, the customer receives timely updates, all whilst maintaining accuracy

  • You are able to break down complicated policy wordings and industry jargon into simple terms to explain to customers. You have the reassuring presence to calm someone down while still getting your message across

  • Knowledge of MS products including Word, Excel, Outlook

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time)

Location: Victoria, BC (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $50,000 - $70,000
