Summary
Reporting to the HSE Manager, The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for providing health, safety and environmental awareness and training on projects and sites. This 6-month term position focuses on supporting crews through safety training, regulatory compliance, and proactive hazard management on heavy civil and road-building projects.
There is potential for this term to be extended depending on project needs and performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to site employees and contractors about company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Write and update procedures, safe work practices and emergency response plans
- Conduct inspections, orientations, audits, and safety meetings
- Maintain and enhance COR program
- Complete/assist incident and near miss investigations
- Conduct safety orientation, training and education to employees
- Provide specialized site training as required
- Oversee the site Occupational, Health and Safety Committee
- Complete JSA’s and evaluate the hazard assessment process
- Manage emergency response plan for site
- Prepare and Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports and record statistics for job site
- Follow all requirements of the company Health and Safety Program and support a safe work environment
- Provide guidance to workers/staff for the adherence of all NRC policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification or in progress of attaining
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a road construction related industry, an asset
- Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
- Holds Valid Class 5 Drivers License with the ability to travel to sites around Manitoba and other provinces as needed
- Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
- Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
- Excellent risk management, incident investigation and analysis skills.
- Ability to develop, influence and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships
- Solid understanding on Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
