Job Synopsis

This position is responsible for keeping up with inventory flow in a fast-paced, high-capacity setting. The receiver will oversee and work alongside staff and volunteers receiving and processing donations of goods at the receiving door. This position will work closely with the Manager and Production Coordinator to maintain a flow of goods. This position is required to work Saturdays.

Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume full responsibility for day to day receiving & distributing of items at the back door & front furniture door.

  • Share MCC’s vision, mission, and values with donors and volunteers.

  • Organize furniture in the backroom and onto the sales floor.

  • Help donors empty their vehicles or help to load sold items into their cars.

  • Thank donors for their items or politely telling them if we are unable to accept their items. (Try to explain why in a courteous manner)

  • Helping MCC Alberta by accepting “Material Resource” donations – loading onto the lift or informing them of donations.

  • Presort donations from bags and boxes into apple boxes by categorizing them

  • Emptying all shop garbage receptacles as well as those in front of the store outside, sweeping and mopping floors when needed. Picking up garbage outside if necessary.

  • Driving for pick-ups and drop-offs.

  • Help with closing the shop.

  • Attending to requests from customers and volunteers.

  • May involve lifting items over 50lbs.

  • General warehouse organization.

  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Occupational Health and Safety Site Representative

  • complete safety training per AB OH&S legislation,
  • act as safety officer for the Shop,
  • ongoing risk assessments,
  • remain current with the required safety training i.e. first aid and WHMIS,
  • ensure OH&S Legislation is adhered to, this includes all reporting, internal and external of incidents, near misses and the resulting changes made to address the concerns.

Challenges:
This position is physically demanding, requiring lifting of boxes and furniture. This position requires good mobility as the incumbent is expected to help at the backdoor as well as in the furniture department.

Location Description

Taber is a town in southern Alberta, Canada within the Municipal District of Taber. It is located approximately 51 km (32 mi) east of the City of Lethbridge at the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 36. The community of Taber welcomes many temporary foreign workers to their area every year due to a high concentration of industrial and commercial farming industries. Taber is also a hub form many Low German Mennonites coming to Canada from Mexico and South America.
Taber is famous for its corn due to the large amounts of sunshine the area receives. It is therefore known as the Corn Capital of Canada and holds an annual "Cornfest" in the last week of August.
