Reporting to the Risk Manager, Legal & Risk Management, the Credit Risk Analyst will be part of the Corporate Legal and Risk Group and responsible for subcontractor prequalification and supporting the administration of the subcontractor default insurance program. This is a junior role within the department, with opportunity for growth into a more senior role over time.

This position is hybrid and is based out of one of our Bird offices across Canada, including Calgary, Edmonton, Richmond, Victoria, Mississauga, Winnipeg, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, St. John’s, and Montreal.

What You Will Be Working On Risk Management

  • Perform comprehensive analysis of potential subcontractors / suppliers to ensure their financial capacity, experience and operational resources meets or exceeds project / contract specific criteria.
  • Coordinate prequalification of subcontractors for the subcontractor default insurance program based on established corporate risk appetites and growth objectives.
  • Adhere to established subcontractor / supplier management protocols and strategies to manage subcontractor performance.
  • Respond to questions from internal and external sources regarding the corporate subcontractor default insurance program.
  • Support tracking of notices to subcontractors and reporting to insurer for enrollment and billing purposes.
  • Support the gathering and compilation of insurance renewal information and submission packages.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and open communication with internal/external stakeholders to reinforce responsible risk management practices and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with subcontractors/suppliers with a strong emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.

What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree, diploma or equivalent relevant work experience in accounting, business, credit risk, credit management, surety, or insurance or a combination will be considered
  • Experience in risk management or surety underwriting with a background in construction sector or subcontractor risk management is preferred
  • General understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and accounting principles is an asset
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, especially when working with large data sets and complex pivot tables in Excel
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Compass prequalification software is an asset
