The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Animal Services, this role is responsible to ensure the proper care of all animals in the custody of the Town and the cleanliness of the facility. This role is also responsible to monitor the welfare and behaviour of the animals and ensure that all work-related policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Comply with all department sanctioned business and project management practices, procedures, methodologies including tools and templates for assigned projects
- Ensure the kennel facilities are disinfected and maintain overall cleanliness of the facility
- Perform general housekeeping duties, laundry, clean and disinfect kennels and outdoor enclosures, cat cages, grooming area, kitchen, storage areas, washroom and office, etc
- Seasonal maintenance of outdoor areas including snow removal and salting of walkways, entrance and exits
- Feed animals, clean food bowls and litterboxes, refill water dishes, prepare food (including specialized diets) and hand feed animals if necessary
- Exercise and socialize dogs, cats and other animals within the care of Animal Services
- Assist with the care of animals by administering medication, special diets, etc.
- Monitor and document animal health and behaviour and ensure immediate concerns are reported to the Supervisor
- Assist with the processing of adoptions, redemptions and intake of animals, including ensuring animals are properly tagged for identification
- Prepare reports as they relate to lost, found and deceased animals
- Receive, process and balance payments for services and issue receipts
- Follow start of day and end of day procedures for Animal Services and ensure completion of all daily tasks and work assignments
- Operate Town vehicle to assist with transport animals and pick up donations and purchase of supplies
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned
- Respond to public inquiries and manage conflict resolution
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an experienced professional with minimum 1-3 years related experience in an animal related field. Minimum education of a high school diploma is required. Ability to recognize and deal effectively with a diversity of animals, problems and behaviors.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills involving occasional ingenuity and refinement of procedures. We are seeking an individual with excellent organizational skills with considerable attention to detail to avoid errors and ability to meet deadlines.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to work in an environment that consists of exposure to disagreeable conditions. The candidate must also be able to be comfortable with physical activity involves some strenuous movement requiring more effort; frequent lifting up to 50lbs, occasional lifting up to 100lbs with assistance.
This position offers an hourly rate of $20.33.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
