About the role

Job Description In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Team Manager and working under the guidance of the Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech Language Assistant delivers treatment and remediation programs, documents client progress, and conducts speech language screening by scheduling activities, preparing information and materials, checking and maintaining equipment, and performing other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience Completion of a recognized Speech-Language Assistant Diploma Program or two year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Valid BC driver's license and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.

Skills And Abilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with young children and families individually and in groups.
  • Ability to type.
  • Ability to operate and maintain related equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
  • Knowledge and skills in developing therapy materials and activities for direct treatment and remediation
  • programs.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
