Job Title: Experienced Auditor – Public Sector & Municipalities (Contract Consultant – Canada)
Job Type: Contract / Consultant (As-Needed Basis)
Location: On-Site

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced Auditor (Canadian CPA is required) with a strong background in Canadian public sector and municipal audits to join our team as a contract consultant on an as-needed basis.
This on-site role involves supporting audit engagements by reviewing audit plans, programs, and workpapers, providing technical guidance, and performing quality control reviews to ensure compliance with Canadian auditing and accounting standards, particularly Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) .
Key Responsibilities:
- Audit Planning Review : Review audit strategies and programs for compliance with professional standards and best practices in public sector auditing.
- Technical Oversight : Provide guidance to audit teams during fieldwork, helping resolve technical issues and interpret PSAS requirements.
- Workpaper & File Review : Conduct detailed reviews of audit documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS).
- Quality Control : Act as a quality reviewer on engagements, identifying and addressing deficiencies in audit execution or documentation.
- PSAS Expertise : Provide support and insight on the application of Public Sector Accounting Standards , including complex transactions and disclosures.
- Final Review Support : Assist audit leadership in preparing files for final partner review or submission to oversight bodies.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation (Canada) required or substantially completed.
- Minimum 7 years of audit experience , including 3+ years specifically in public sector or municipal audits in Canada.
- Deep knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) .
- Experience as a manager, senior auditor, or quality control reviewer on public sector audits.
- Strong technical, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work on-site at client locations.
Nice to Have:
- Experience as an Engagement Quality Control Reviewer (EQCR) on public sector engagements.
- Knowledge of municipal operations, financial reporting, and governance structures.
- Proficiency in audit tools such as CaseWare or other Canadian audit software platforms.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
