About the role

**Location: Mississauga, ON | Reports To: Mechanical Engineering Manager

Experience Level: 4-6 Years | Education: Bachelor’s Degree** Position Summary Field Aerospace is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer 3 to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll apply your engineering expertise to design, install, modify, analyze, and test aircraft components and systems. You'll play a critical part in developing innovative mechanical solutions using industry-leading CAD and PLM tools to support mission-critical aircraft modification programs.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced aerospace environment, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and is looking to grow in a leadership-oriented technical role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop detailed 3D solid models, technical drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for mechanical systems and components.
  • Read, interpret, and create technical drawings, schematics, and models using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Conduct and coordinate engineering analysis to validate designs meet customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements.
  • Review and check engineering drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal standards.
  • Evaluate customer design proposals, technical manuals, and specifications to assess feasibility, cost, and long-term maintenance impacts.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical and system failures, diagnose design issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead and present technical concepts and design decisions in internal and external design reviews (PDR/CDR).
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support configuration management and documentation processes within PDM/PLM environments.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 4–6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the aerospace industry.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred), PDM, and PLM tools.
  • Direct experience with aircraft systems design and modification.
  • Familiarity with Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to complex technical challenges.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also leading and collaborating in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and willingness to mentor others.
