HOURS: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the joint general direction of the Supervisor of Maintenance and Principal the Head Custodian is responsible for the

cleanliness and safety of the school building and grounds, providing direction and supervision to the custodial staff within the

guidelines, regulations, and policies of the Louis Riel School Division. This position supports the strategic actions of the Multi-
Year Strategic Plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
As the Head Custodian, your responsibilities are:

  • Ensure divisional buildings and properties are safe and in clean condition.
  • Lead and supervises custodial staff.
  • Administrative tasks.
  • Maintenance tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
• High school graduation certificate or equivalent training/experience is required.

  • Must hold a valid 5th Class Power Engineer License. (from the Province of Manitoba)

o Internal candidates willing to obtain certificate within six (6) months from the date of hiring will be given

consideration if there are no qualified candidates.

  • Completion of Respect In School or equivalent training is required.
  • Minimum 2 years previous custodial/cleaning experience is required.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience supervising staff is required.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Workplace Safety and Health, Fire Safety, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of codes and regulations affecting building systems in school facilities is preferred
  • Superior communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the public and school staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and write English as well as understand simple instructions, diagrams, and procedures to fix and install

equipment for regular repairs.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, assign, and share work in an efficient, fair manner.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to coach and work collaboratively with others.
  • Recognize, practice, and demonstrate safety.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Respects confidentiality of work.
  • Leads custodial staff with integrity and respect.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.

  • Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.

  • Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.

  • Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
