Your Team Join the Finance team, where accuracy and compliance are critical to maintaining financial integrity. The Tax Analyst, Regulatory is responsible for preparing working papers related to airline-specific fees and taxes in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and any future jurisdictions where Flair operates. This role ensures that all accounts are reconciled monthly and that reporting and remittance are accurate and timely, based on each tax or airport authority’s schedule. The Tax Analyst works closely with internal departments and external stakeholders such as the CRA, IRS, and airport authorities to ensure compliance and accuracy.
This role is based on-site at one of the offices in Edmonton, AB (YEG) or Calgary, AB (YYC).
A Day In The Life The duties of the Tax Analyst, Regulatory include:
- Reconcile and report all airline-specific taxes and fees to the individual tax and airport authorities according to their schedule.
- Review and ensure all tax rates are current and remitted on schedule
- Ensure data integrity of all airline stats and report monthly to each airport authority
- Act as a business partner with Commercial and IT to ensure all tax rates and rules are current in all systems and facilitate in the testing of taxes for new destinations
- Work with the Revenue Accounting, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and External Tax Consultants to troubleshoot variances and discrepancies
- Help identify inefficiencies and develop strategies to automate existing manual processes
- Proactivity develop and maintain relationships with internal and external parties
- Support the Safety Management System program through participation and reporting
- Other duties as assigned by the organization from time to time
- Support in new project rollouts where applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring To The Role The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values of respect, honesty, accountability, and efficiency while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or a related field is preferred.
- Enrollment in the CPA program is an asset.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 of 5 years of progressive experience in a tax, finance, or accounting role, preferably in the aviation, transportation, or highly regulated industry.
- Experience with tax reconciliation, reporting, and compliance within multiple jurisdictions, including Canada and the U.S.
- Strong understanding of indirect taxes (e.g., GST, VAT, sales tax, excise tax) and their application to airline operations.
- Previous experience working with government agencies (e.g., CRA, IRS, or equivalent international tax authorities) is an asset.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and financial reporting tools.
- Familiarity with aviation-specific fees and taxes (e.g., airport improvement fees, passenger facility charges, carbon taxes) is an asset.
- Experience in process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency in tax reporting and reconciliation.
- Ability to analyze large datasets and identify discrepancies in financial records.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and regulatory compliance related to financial reporting and taxation.
- Experience with airline systems is an asset.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong proficiency in reconciliation processes with a keen attention to detail.
- In-depth understanding of full-cycle accounting transactions and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proficiency in NetSuite is an asset.
- Requirements:
- Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
