About the role

Role:

The School Counselor with the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education will be responsible for the coordination of the comprehensive counselling program within a school(s) focusing on preventative and responsive programs and services. These programs and services must be principally concerned with the personal, social, educational and career needs of all students, placing priority on the best interest of students. Consistent with the Department of Education and Tri-County Regional Centre for Education policies, the School Counsellor will work within an established framework for the delivery of specialized services to students. Working collaboratively in a team environment, the School Counsellor will demonstrate a strong commitment to the school improvement process in support of student learning and reports directly to the School Principal(s).

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Master’s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent
  • Training in Restorative Approaches
  • Training in Trauma Informed Practises
  • Group Counselling Theory and Practice
  • School Counselling Programs
  • Professional Ethics
  • Counselling Skills
  • Career and Transition Counselling
  • Experience teaching at an elementary / secondary level
  • Experience as an elementary / secondary school counsellor
  • Cultural responsivity in Equity and Inclusion within a counselling context
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire
