The Project There is so much happening in the world of transit, right here in Toronto. We are looking for talented individuals to be part of a once in a generation transit expansion by working on Toronto’s Subways Extension Program. The MCS team is partnering with partnering with Metrolinx to deliver the Subway Extensions program. The Subways Extension program comprises two subway extensions. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometres further into Scarborough, with three new stations. The Yonge North Subway Extension will extend the TTC’s Line 1 by nearly eight kilometers north from Finch Station to Richmond Hill, with five new stations.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Lead to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, creative vision, and strong leadership to drive the design maturity, working with a number of stakeholders across Metrolinx and its contractors. This position will manage a team of Metrolinx staff, consultants, contractors and stakeholders to deliver design packages to maturity.

You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Leading and coordinating technical assurance of multiple design packages and physical construction works on large infrastructure projects
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers across multiple workstreams
  • Oversee the end-to-end design and engineering process, ensuring alignment with project and broader business goals, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Drive innovation in design and engineering practices, tools, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage project schedules and resource allocation.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

You’ll Need To Have

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent field
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering management, potentially inclusive of design management
  • Strong understanding of design principles and engineering methodologies
  • Project management experience on large scale rapid transit projects
  • Experience working with a large team of technical professionals and large-scale contractors
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing the competing objectives of many external and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience managing and influencing a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including municipalities
