About this opportunity:
We are looking for an Intermediate level Data Analytics Engineer/Scientist to join our Data Analytics and Integration team, commencing in Sept 2025. Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics and Integration (Development + Reserves Department), the successful candidate will have education and/or training in Data Analytics, with experience in Petroleum Engineering (Reservoir, Development or Production) and/or Geoscience. Skills and experience in advanced data visualization tools (Power BI and Spotfire), programming skills (Python, SQL, and R), and on-demand cloud computing platforms (AWS and Databricks) is key for the successful candidate. The Data Analytics team is looking for a team player who thrives in a technically challenging collaborative environment, and who will champion scalable solutions, enhance data literacy, and further advance the adoption of analytics and automation at Paramount. Guidance and mentorship will be provided by the Director, Data Analytics & Integration.
What you’ll be doing:
- Active engagement in the development of data, automation and analytical solutions to address real-life Oil & Gas business challenges
- You will focus on Data Engineering and Analytics, including tool development for key departments (Reservoir Engineering, Geoscience, Drilling, Completions, and Production) in Databricks, Python IDEs, Web Apps, Power BI and Spotfire, and building predictive multivariate analytical models (MVA) and leveraging machine learning (ML) algorithms either internally or working with 3rd parties.
- Collaborate with managers, engineers, geoscientists, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders
- Applying on-prem and cloud-based data warehousing concepts and methodologies to deploy data pipelines using Databricks, Python, SQL, etc.
- Align and improve data governance and corporate data strategy
- You will participate in the design, development, training, and testing of models and oil and gas data-based MVA and ML modules in context to POU development standards and guidelines, and present solutions using various visualization techniques
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) (e.g. data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders) to define reporting requirements and design, develop and maintain advanced, user-friendly, analytical tools and dashboards and sustainable data pipelines
- Participate in day-to-day operational tasks and projects
Who you are:
- Successfully completed a Software, Computer, Electrical Technologist or Engineering undergraduate program OR a Science undergraduate program
- 8+ Years of post-graduate Experience in Data Analytics / Data Science (data analytics in oil and gas)
- Able to work effectively in a team environment
- Value feedback as a learning tool
- Motivated, hard-working, and determined to achieve superior results
- Focused and have a keen attention to detail
- Problem solver
- Passionate about technology
- Curious and inquisitive
What you have:
- Work experience in Oil and Gas in Engineering and/or Geoscience and Data Analytics roles
- A strong obligation to accountability
- Significant experience in cloud database systems and applications, AWS, Databricks, Spotfire, PowerBI, SQL databases, ETL tools and pipelines
- Experience with data collection, manipulation, and analysis
- Experience with various programming languages (SQL, Java, “R”, Python)
- Strong MS Office skills or have demonstrated effective decision-making skills
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Calgary area
