The Institute of Applied Mechanics at Technische Universität Braunschweig invites applications for a Research Associate (PhD student) position in the field of Data-Driven Mechanics. The successful candidate will join the Division for Data-driven Modelling of Mechanical Systems, led by Prof. Henning Wessels, and will engage in research at the intersection of continuum solid mechanics, machine learning, and uncertainty quantification.
Requirements – Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a strong focus on continuum solid mechanics and computational methods (e.g., mechanical, civil, or computational engineering; applied mathematics; techno-mathematics; or similar)
– Solid background in continuum solid mechanics
– Prior experience in machine learning (Bayesian statistics is advantageous)
– Proficiency in coding, particularly with Python or Matlab; familiarity with Julia is a plus
– Very good English language skills; German language skills are advantageous
– Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; high degree of initiative and flexibility
Responsibilities – Conduct research in data-driven mechanics, including the development and testing of computational methods and machine learning algorithms
– Publish research findings and participate in national and international conferences
– Contribute to teaching activities, including preparation and delivery of courses and supervision of student work
