About the Role

Curiko is looking for a Lead of Communications & Partnerships to craft meaningful messages, mobilize community, ignite passion and participation. We are looking for someone that holds a passion for creative content that is not driven by AI. As the Lead of Communications and Partnerships, you’ll set strategy, co-create content, and implement digital campaigns and in-person activations that can help to shift the tired stories too many of us hold about disability, normality, and inclusion. You’ll help to share Curiko with a wide audience through a mix of print, video, social media, and event-based storytelling. This role is pivotal in supporting Curiko to grow across the province of BC and beyond!

About Us

Curiko is a community platform that sparks more moments of connection between people whose bodies and brains work differently, creating the conditions for equal relationships and good lives. We exist to disrupt longstanding patterns of exclusion and isolation that keep too many people with and without disabilities living separate and apart. We are looking for a people person who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves building community, and can toggle between emergence and structure. If you are looking to contribute to meaningful social change, and want to help us grow, keep reading.

  • Growing Curiko brand awareness and its community through effective communication strategies that align with the values of Curiko
  • Designing and implementing effective and creative recruitment & activation strategies
  • Tracking metrics around reach and impact to inform strategy
  • Outreach to external community partners and mobilizing community members to share Curiko
  • Developing systems for gathering stories of change and translating learnings into impactful messages

  • Hosting and planning events
  • Marketing experiences for recruitment, brand awareness; target and connect to broader audiences
  • Identifying strategic partnerships/alliances and nurturing those relationships through engaging interactions, campaigns, events, etc.
  • Supporting the development of Curiko governance structure and maintaining communications with external partners/stakeholders
  • Attending Curiko experiences to connect with community members, gather content to share moments and stories to the Curiko community and wider audience

About You

We’re looking for a passionate enthusiast who loves meeting and listening to others, a lateral thinker who is able to connect the dots for cohesive messaging. Mostly we are looking for someone who is jazzed by creating original content and working with the team and Curiko community to shape and share stories that spark action. If you’re thinking that this role could be AI-powered or driven, then this probably isn’t for you.

  • Purpose driven storyteller - finding, creating, and amplifying stories of connection and change
  • An excellent communicator/writer - can translate ideas for different audiences, and spark others’ interest & motivation
  • A strong aesthetic eye with an appreciation for beauty and details - someone that takes great care in the look and feel of materials—a background in design would be a plus!
  • Knowledgeable around marketing/communications strategies
  • Savvy with SEOs, social media and other impactful communication tools and channels
  • A strategic thinker and campaigner - the ability to transform stories into beautiful campaigns that engage, motivate and enliven people to act
  • Participatory and inclusive - engaging and learning from people with different lived experiences to you is a value you try to practice
  • Curious and open-minded - willing to give things a go and receptive to feedback
  • Courageous and assertive - not afraid to take action, and approach unfamiliar people and situations with excitement
  • Systems thinker - seeing the connection points between all the pieces of Curiko and are able to weave them together to develop strong consistent messaging
  • Collaborative team player - will take initiative, step-up, and lend a hand even if it’s not in your job description

About Your Background

Do you have …

  • A wide range of experience in marketing, design, campaigning, writing or community mobilization.
  • A track record of creating and implementing effective campaigns and activations. This might be online or in person!
  • Experience writing and developing compelling copy that goes beyond typical ‘inspirational’ stories.
  • Background in design, visual arts or photography.
  • Knowledgeable in multiple social media platforms and tracking metrics.
  • A proven ability to be flexible and quickly toggle between different areas of thought and tasks.
  • Comfort and skill with technology (we are a tech-enabled platform, after all)—able to troubleshoot and manage backend functions to support the running of the site

What We Offer

We are a small, non-profit start-up that offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package ($62K/year plus extended medical & dental benefits, car allowance & pension). What can’t be captured in numbers is the enriching work culture you get to join and actively shape. We describe it as a culture of ambition, curiosity, experimentation, and total possibility!

Flexible hours - Life doesn’t happen just from 9am–5pm and we get that. There’s a few non-negotiable times of the week that we like to huddle together to strategize and reflect, but otherwise can be pretty flexible.

Supportive team - We take a strengths-based approach to working with the community and we try to embody that in the environment that we co-create. We’re all about weaving our different skills, disciplines & experiences together.

Ongoing learning - We embody a growth mindset. You might not be good at something yet, but we work to get you there. How? We offer opportunities to hone your skills and fail. Yep, we think people learn more from failing than success. So this is a pretty safe place to experiment and try new things.

Exposure - Curiko is incubated by social design organization, InWithForward. That means, you get exposed to a wide array of social science and human-centered design approaches, and get to draw on a wide pool of talent.

Impact - Lots of people talk about problems or what they wish could be different. We don’t talk, we do something about it. You’ll get to actively tackle stigma and prejudice, and find fresh ways to connect people across lines of difference.
