About the role

CareCorp Seniors Services, a trusted long-term care and assisted living contractor, is currently hiring a temporary full time Recreation Coordinator for one of our long-term care facilities, Discovery Harbour Care Centre

Facility Address: 850-14 Avenue, Campbell River, BC V9H 4H4
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Monday – Friday (0800-1600)
Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 per annum + extended health and dental benefits

Position Summary
Reporting to the Care Manager, the Recreation Coordinator coordinates and evaluates a wide variety of recreation programs of therapeutic quality to ensure that the physical, social, emotional intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs / interest of residents are met in accordance with established goals and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates recreation/leisure programs such as crafts, music, mental aerobics, exercises, and sensory stimulation to meet residents’ physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs and interests; develops the goals and objectives of the program;
  • Provides supervision to all recreation staff, students, and volunteers;
  • Evaluates the needs for related training;
  • Identifies the recreation/leisure program which meet the residents’ needs and abilities by reviewing the care plan, interviewing the resident regarding their social/leisure history and consulting with family and the multidisciplinary team; identifies, evaluates, implements, and documents recreation/leisure goals and objectives based on individual interests and abilities;
  • Develops and publishes a calendar of events and programs;
  • Promotes and publicizes upcoming events;
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents resident progress within the recreation/leisure programs and reports observations such as emotional wellbeing and social behavior to the multidisciplinary team as required;
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and care conferences;
  • Identifies and makes recommendations regarding community and facility resources that may be of additional interest or need to the resident;
  • Assists residents with meals including providing nourishments and feeding;
  • Monitors program expenditures and provides input to the program budget;
  • Oversees inventory of equipment, tools and materials and recommends purchase of same;
  • Purchases minor equipment in accordance with established facility guidelines and procedures;
  • Ensures equipment, tools and materials are in good repair and appropriate for use;
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Director of Care/Site Administrator.

Qualifications

  • Certification in National Council of Therapeutic Recreation;
  • University graduation or diploma in therapeutic recreation;
  • Three year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Valid CPR/ First Aid and food safe Certificate;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Cultural education and experience are preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
