The opportunity

Marks & Clerk Canada is seeking a dynamic and experienced  Business Development Specialist .

This is a key role that will help drive the growth of our business in Canada, as a member of our local team and reporting to the National Director of Business Development & Marketing.

In this role you will work closely with practice group leaders, partners, and associates, to gather and apply strategic market insights and provide go-to-market support towards a wide range of business development and market growth initiatives, in line with our growth strategy for Canada.

In addition, you will be involved in key initiatives, including the implementation and adoption of CRM and technology tools, and delivery of BD training programs for our Canadian offices.

The ideal candidate is a confident, proactive, and highly organized individual who can take ownership to lead BD initiatives and programs, and foster collaboration with IP professionals, BD & Marketing colleagues, including global counterparts, to deliver strong results and impact.

This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days in the office, in either our Ottawa or Toronto locations.

Professional & Interpersonal Strengths

  • Proactive, with a growth mindset who embraces continuous learning

  • Extremely organized with strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholders.

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to assist with internal briefings and development of business development materials.

  • Flexible work style able to perform well in a team-oriented environment, building and managing positive relationships with internal stakeholders and colleagues.

  • Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.

Education, Business & Technical Expertise

  • Post-secondary degree in business, marketing, economics, or a related field.

  • 5+ years experience in a business development role in a professional service, law firm or corporate environment (IP, life sciences or technology focus an asset).

  • CRM, Data & Technology: Experience using CRM/ERM and similar analytics tools to identify and track business development efforts and measure success. Experience using technology tools to create efficiencies and high-quality deliverables.

  • Global Business Acumen: Understanding of and interest in global business development dynamics and ability to align local business initiatives with broader international strategies.
