Position: Associate Human Resources Generalist

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. Our plan is to ensure that people throughout British Columbia, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support development of talent across communities in the province.

Position Description

Reporting to Director, Human Resources, the Associate Human Resources Generalist is responsible for delivering comprehensive HR support and solutions across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training, and compliance. This position partners with the HR team, people leaders and staff to promote a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment in alignment with our company core values.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for employees and managers on HR-related inquiries, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Support end-to-end recruitment efforts, including sourcing, interviewing, and coordinating offers and onboarding
  • Partner with people leaders on performance management, employee engagement, and retention strategies
  • Maintain and update employee records in HRIS and ensure data accuracy and confidentiality
  • Administer benefits programs, leaves of absence, and wellness initiatives
  • Manage employee relations cases, conducting investigations and recommending solutions when necessary
  • Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and programs
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal employment laws (BC ESA, Human Rights Code, etc.) and company policies
  • Coordinate and promote occupational health and safety initiatives in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements
  • Generate reports and analyze HR metrics to support decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Support HR communications for Science World as directed
  • Help foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture
  • Work collaboratively with HR Generalist ensuring HR functions are managed in support of the Science World team
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field

  • 3+ years of HR experience of a generalist nature, including recruitment

  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR practices, and compliance requirements

  • Understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health & safety best practices

  • Experience with HRIS platforms

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication including interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and to work independently and in a team environment

  • Previous experience dealing with Union is beneficial

  • CPHR or working towards designation is an asset

The pay range for this position is $52,000 - $63,000 per year.
