Wage Schedule: $30.840 - $35.150 per hour

This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 24 July 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 31 July 2025.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the MLA Team Lead, Charge Technologist(s) or Manager, the Phlebotomist is responsible for performing duties including: collecting blood samples, performing ECG's, following proper blood collection techniques as outlined in the phlebotomy manual; ensuring correct patient identification prior to collecting and accurately labelling the samples; transporting of specimens to the laboratory for testing; reporting immediately, any unusual incidents involving patients which occur in the performance of duties; following established safety and infection control procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate from a recognized training facility (in good standing);

  • MLPAO (OSMT) and/or CSMLS Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) certification required;

  • Recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital or medical laboratory setting;

  • Proven effective organizational, prioritization and time-management abilities;

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Proven strong team player abilities with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

  • Knowledge of infection control principles and practices;

  • Physically able to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting and prolonged standing and walking;

  • Ability to work in a high paced environment with frequent interruptions;

  • Proven computer/keyboarding experience;

  • Experience with pneumatic tube transport systems, an asset; and

  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
