About the role

Position Overview:

Applications are invited for more than one casual position of Community Services Worker in the Parks, Recreation & Culture department.

This position is a split position working as an Arena Labourer in the Winter and Arenas/Parks Labourer in the summer. The successful applicants will start training in arena's and won't train in parks until the spring of 2026.

Within the Arenas the Hours of work vary between 7am - 1am Mon - Sun

In Parks, hours are between May - October 7:30am - 5pm Mon-Fri.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform daily maintenance and operation duties required in the normal operation of the facility and parks. This includes all ice making and ice maintenance procedures in an efficient manner and to keep the facility in a safe operating condition, as well as outdoor field and open space maintenance.

Operate and perform minor maintenance on buildings, ice resurfacing equipment, grass cutting equipment and other small equipment.

Perform and record daily ice plant readings, weekly air quality and building safety checks.

Assist with the facilitation of special events.

Monitor the security of the facility.

Required to determine if electrical, refrigeration and other mechanical systems are operating satisfactorily. Must be able to perform minor control adjustments according to instructions.

Deal with requests from the various user groups and members of the general public in an efficient and courteous manner.

Perform daily janitorial and security duties.

Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, repair and data collection tasks within the assigned Division.

Perform heavy manual tasks when required.

May be required to provide guidance to other employees.

Follow Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, Agreements, policies and procedures.

Follow the Act, Regulations and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12.

Security Background Check Required.

Must possess and maintain a valid Pesticide Applicators License.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
