Senior Infrastructure Project Manager
About the role
Position Summary:
The Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and execution of construction projects, ensuring that work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires proactive management of all project phases, with accountability for schedule, cost control, and health and safety compliance.
The Project Manager will report directly to the Project Director.
Location:
This position requires frequent travel to project sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster professional, cooperative relationships with clients, contract administrators, and design consultants to encourage repeat business.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the contractor and lead all site and project team meetings.
- Review all relevant project documents (e.g., drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports) to fully understand project scope, constraints, and client objectives.
- Set up and maintain project files, assign job numbers, and ensure consistent documentation across all correspondence and records.
- Review project estimates to coordinate work accordingly, assess risks, and identify assumptions or limitations.
- Define and track all critical project deliverables to ensure timely completion.
- Source all required materials and subcontractors; negotiate pricing to meet budget constraints and report significant variances from estimates.
- Issue purchase orders and subcontract agreements using standardized company forms.
- Secure all necessary permits, approvals, and notices for project execution.
- Prepare and manage all required submittals in compliance with contract specifications.
- Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all related safety standards on site.
- Communicate and document changes in scope or contract conditions, and prepare related cost estimates for additional or revised work.
- Oversee progress payment applications in collaboration with the Site Superintendent and Project Coordinator.
- Monitor daily on-site progress and compare it with estimated costs and schedules.
- Verify supplier and subcontractor invoices against purchase orders and contractual agreements.
- Conduct regular site visits and collaborate with the Site Superintendent to ensure ongoing alignment with project requirements and timelines.
- Organize and lead subcontractor meetings to review and coordinate progress.
- Manage project closeout, including submission for substantial and total completion and publication as required under lien legislation.
- Maintain a strong understanding of trade union agreements and regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (Civil Construction experience preferred, particularly in sewer and watermain projects).
- 5–10 years of relevant construction experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially under pressure.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license.
- Proficient in English (oral and written); strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional multitasking, prioritization, and time management abilities.
- Keen attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and HCSS HeavyBid (required).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to meeting deadlines and quality benchmarks.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (sponsorship not available).
