About the role
Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area.
With a staff of 500 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are "home-bound" and frail.
We are currently seeking a Personal Support Worker to join our Adult Day Program.
Term: Casual
Location: 300 Silver Star Blvd., Scarborough / 420 Hwy 7 East, Richmond Hill
Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist clients with activities of daily living (ie. walking, positioning, transfers, toileting, personal hygiene, eating and feeding)
- Perform food preparation, table set up, and serving
- Assist with delivery of activities of daily living, education, and recreation, with other team members based on clients’ cognitive and physical capabilities
- Pick-up and drop-off clients from agency vehicles and/or Wheel-Trans at program site
- Document and report clients’ daily progress as required
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the program space and activity areas
Requirements:
- Graduated from a recognized Personal Support Worker Program or equivalent (e.g. RPN) or is an internationally-trained nurse
- At least 1 year of experience in a community / facility setting working with seniors
- Sensitivity to seniors with needs related to aging, physical and mental health
- Able to perform client transfers and daily living activities; lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stretch, stand for extended period of time
- Possess a caring attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to work shift hours, including Saturdays
- Proficiency in English and a second language commonly used by our clients such as Cantonese/Mandarin, is an asset
- Valid First Aid & CPR certificate, and Food Handlers’ certificate
- Clear vulnerable sector check completed within one year
