- Job location: Albian Oil Sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta. (Company sponsored fly-in/fly-out and camp facilities with flights from Calgary/Edmonton)
- Shift schedule: 7x7 – 12 hours/day, Wednesday to Tuesday
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
- Perform the duties of a construction resident engineer under the direction of the Engineer of Record for earth structures within an active oil sands mine
- Perform daily assurance focused site inspections, including survey checks, fill placements, stakeholder engagements, and performance evaluations. Field time is expected to account for 50% of your daily shift length
- Prepare as-build records/performance reports for earth structures on weekly and monthly basis, as required; track earth structure underbuilds and placement rates on weekly basis; engage stakeholders to review results and actions based on findings
- Evaluate borrow suitability for construction of earth structures
- Support geology with pit wall mapping during mining
- Plan, implement and assess instrumentation programs to monitor performance of earth structures and pit-wall slopes
- Contribute to work standards, procedures and guidelines for the Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Work on Annual Performance Review (APR) reports for submission to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) to meet regulatory approval commitments
What You Bring to the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA is required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering design, analyses, report writing, Geotechnical instrumentation data analysis and reporting, Geotechnical field experience in foundation investigations, earthworks construction and instrumentation monitoring
- Previous mining and Geotechnical engineering experience, preferable in the oil sands industry and experience with the Geological and Geotechnical conditions of the oil sands region is preferable
