THE POSITION Keyera is currently seeking a Senior Surface Land Analyst (12-month contract) who has significant experience with the acquisition process for both Crown and freehold lands. This role will be located at Keyera's Calgary office. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously while demonstrating excellent organizational skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the flexibility to pivot between shifting priorities.
In addition to land acquisition responsibilities, this individual will contribute to project planning and scoping across a variety of initiatives. A key aspect of the role involves drafting project execution plans from a surface land perspective and advising project teams on the required deliverables and agreements. The successful candidate will also work closely with internal project teams and our external land broker to ensure smooth, efficient, and timely execution of all land-related activities.
Responsibilities
- Land Acquisition: Secure surface access and acquire necessary permits for pipeline and facility construction, operations, and maintenance.
- Due Diligence & Risk Mitigation: Conduct land assessments during project kick-offs to identify legal, environmental, and logistical risks related to pipeline routing and dig locations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Interface and build strong working relationships with internal project teams (Regulatory, Environment, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction) and other key stakeholders to enhance project support.
- Coordination of External Resources: Effectively coordinate with third-party service providers, including land brokers.
- Payment Processing: Receive and process payments for acquisitions, damage settlements, and temporary workspaces.
- Third-Party Agreement Management: Review and process third-party agreements, including updating the land database and organizing related files and systems.
- Document Preparation: Prepare and issue land agreements, third-party requests, notifications, and other documents necessary for acquiring land rights or addressing file deficiencies.
- Administrative Support: Provide general land administration and compliance support, including field agent coordination, research, documentation, and recordkeeping.
- Other related tasks and duties as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of surface land experience.
- Related post-secondary education in Petroleum Land Administration.
- Extensive working knowledge of surface land procedures, relevant land legislation and regulations.
- Experience with AER - Public Lands Act applications.
- Proven ability to manage land brokers and ensure data accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and administrative skills.
- Proficient computer skills, with experience in land and accounting systems and databases.
- Alberta Land Agent License would be considered an asset.
