This role will be carried out on 12-hour dayshift, rotation of 7 days on then 7 days off. It will be the responsibility of the incumbent to ensure that sufficient planning and handover work has been done to allow for a smooth operation while they are offsite. This will include detailed handovers, interacting with maintenance, controlling any consumables and parts not controlled by the warehouse. Please note that this is not a fly-in, fly-out position and will be based in Labrador West, NL.

Role: Reporting to the Mine Manager the Mine Services & Drill and Blast Supervisor will coordinate all activities that the mine department is responsible for except load/haul. This will include but not be limited to:

  • Reclaim and screening of concentrate
  • Driving continuous improvement in the mining environment
  • Movement and loadout of MRC tailings
  • Oversee tailings work
  • Ensure dumps are operating effectively
  • Oversee road maintenance
  • Oversee blast pattern preparation
  • Oversee the contractor doing development mining
  • Oversee the crushing of stemming and winter road material
  • Oversee HDPE pipe fusion work
  • Oversee the cleanout of the crusher when required
  • Oversee all drilling operations both production and development
  • Assist other departments when requested
  • Any other activities that are not load/haul

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and understand the overall mine plan as developed by the mine planning department and take responsibility to safety deliver results against the plan
  • Understand the capabilities of the mine services and driller teams
  • Understand the functionality of all the equipment under their responsibility
  • Control all operating consumables
  • Work with maintenance on equipment maintenance scheduling to meet mine plan requirements
  • Work with training to ensure equipment operators and drillers have the required aptitude, skills and knowledge to operate the equipment.
  • Work with training to achieve acceptable proficiency for each member of the mine services and driller teams on every piece of equipment in the MS&DB fleet
  • Provide people and equipment for blast clearance as per the company procedures on blast days
  • Review all mine services and drill/blast related SOP’s periodically to ensure they are current and reflect best practices

Measurables:

The incumbent will have the following KPI’s

  • Safety performance of the Mine Services and driller team members
  • Overall haul road quality
  • Timely delivery of concentrate
  • Achieving desired drill meter targets
  • Overall satisfaction of the many customers that the Mine Services and driller groups serves
  • Costs/tonne for the mine services and driller activities compared to budget and best practices

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5 + years’ experience at supervisor level or higher
  • Equipment experiences preferred
  • Production rotary and development hammer drill experience preferred
