Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds 12
Employment type: Temporary Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 78,000.00 - 84,100.00
What you'll do
- Operates and analyzes field devices installed throughout the province (such as smart meters for all three (3) distribution
customer classes, feeder and transformer devices, complex meters for major industrial classes, distribution automation
devices and home area network devices) and their respective field device communications (mesh network, distribution field
device communication network, and transmission measurement device communications) by troubleshooting complex issues
escalated by lower-level Analysts and other internal groups.
- Analyzes a wide range of field device (mesh network and field device communication network) deficiencies and failures
escalated through front-line troubleshooting including non-communicating / non-reading meters and other devices. Identifies
and initiates the appropriate resolution in maintaining field device network communication health.

Manages configuration changes, device firmware download, device activation and device interrogation requests.

Conducts geo-spatial analysis to support field device operations such as firmware download and to identify issues with
field device network connectivity.
- Determines the requirement for physical inspections of non-communicating meters or other devices. Arranges for physical
inspections by field resources to identify meter-specific malfunctions. Follows up on initial field investigations where further
onsite diagnostics are required to resolve issues.
- Documents for management approval all new and revised standard operating procedures and workflows to ensure
procedures reflect current practice, updates in software or application tools, the introduction of new technology and the
appropriate resolution of issues encountered in the field device network.
- Coordinates incident management and service request fulfillment for meter and communication device issues by:
assigning incidents and service requests to appropriate resources; monitoring progress of incidents and service requests;
and following-up with internal resources, vendors and customers to ensure incidents and service requests are completed.
- Collects and analyzes incident and service request data. Delivers standard and ad hoc reports, identifies trends and
issues, raises and assigns problems, and coordinates delivery of solutions to issues and problems.

May perform some or all of the duties of the Meter & Communications Device Analyst 1.

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- University Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other relevant field; and
four (4) years of experience in data management and analysis, with exposure to SQL queries, metering, mesh and field
device network systems, processes, routines and procedures or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience with meters from vendors such as: Itron (Centron, Riva, or Q1000 meters), Honeywell/Elster
(Alpha meters), Schneider (ION meters) preferably within BC Hydro’s operating environment.
- Requires completion of in-house and/or vendor training on metering-specific tools within three (3) months of starting the
job.
- Requires completion of the Electrical Utility Fundamentals course or equivalent; or must be completed within one (1) year
of starting in the job.

- As this is a role on an Operations team, the ability to respond to callout, and work both planned and unplanned overtime is
required. Team members provide safety and technical support for Field Crews, so strong verbal skills are required.
